Finding Antimicrobial Activity in the Flora of Camden County

Vijay, Riya, and Saarth participated in a team research project where the team wanted to help solve the problem of antibacterial resistance. They were able to use methods such as bacterial plating and micro-pipetting to find that certain local plants killed bacteria more efficiently than some leading antibiotics

Vijay, Riya, Saarth 2019

Won first place at both the Coriell Institute and Delaware Valley Science Fairs.

Invited to compete in the world-renowned Regeneron International Science and Engineering Fair.

The Purification and Isolation of Novel Antimicrobial Compounds

Vijay, Riya, and Saarth participated in a team research project where the team tested the antibacterial activity of plants in the Camden and Burlington County area. They were able to use methods such as solid-phase extraction and high-pressure liquid chromatography to isolate and identify a potentially novel compound within the false indigo bush.

Vijay, Riya, Saarth 2020

1st Place in the Teams category at the Coriell Science Fair.

Honorable Mention for Teams Category at the Delaware Valley Science Fair.

The Physico-Chemical Properties of Local Water Bodies

Pranay participated in an individual research project where he tested different aspects of local water sources to see if there were any environmental issues at hand. He was able to use water testing strips, his knowledge of the environments, and unconventional techniques to find that many of the local water sources were high in hardness, low in alkalinity, and were contaminated with heavy metals.

Pranay 2019

1st Place in the Environmental Science category at the Coriell Science Fair.

Special Award at the Delaware Valley Science Fair.

t1

The Effect of Food on Gut Bacteria

Mehul participated in an individual research project where he tested different food sources’ effects on the activity of probiotics. He was able to use bacterial spreading techniques and pipet work to find that two raw food extracts and Amoxicillin inhibited the growth of two popular probiotics while curcumin inhibited the growth of four probiotics.

Mehul 2020

3rd Place in the Microbiology category at the Coriell Science Fair.

t1

The Effect of Food on Probiotics

Arnav participated in an individual research project where he tested different food sources’ effects on various species of gut bacteria found in humans. He was able to use bacterial spreading techniques and pipet work to find that there were some components of different diets around the world that affected human gut bacteria.

Arnav 2019

1st Place in the Microbiology category at the Coriell Science Fair.

Special Award at the Delaware Valley Science Fair
